“Only 1 ingredient…” This is single ingredient (corn) cereal was devised by UK retailer, Marks and Spencer (M&S), and is marketed with “no added nasties” (yeah, REALLY not a fan of that!) but it also has no added enrichment or fortification package so that means no added vitamins, e.g. B vitamins like riboflavin (for RFK Jr’s benefit, that’s pronounced RYE-BOW-FLAY-VIN) or minerals like iron. “…The M&S innovations are clearly a response to growing demand from shoppers for minimally processed foods.

“…Yes, we do overconsume ready-made food. But is the problem really the food—or what we’ve done with our relationship to it? Is the enemy really the emulsifier... or is it exhaustion, rush, loneliness, or disconnection from our bodies? I love that saying: “Every complex problem has a simple, elegant, and completely wrong solution.” And that’s precisely what the UPF narrative has become: a comforting mantra that excuses us from thinking about what really matters while criminalizing foods that, quite literally, nourish us….
Maybe it’s time we let go of this need for clear-cut villains, neatly packaged culprits, and capital-letter truths. Perhaps we should treat food with the same elegance we should treat life itself: with nuance, with care, with critical thinking—and, once in a while, with a cream-filled cookie. Yes, with additives. And no guilt. Because honestly, this idea that anything not harvested at 6 a.m. from a regenerative farm will kill us... is getting hard to digest. And oversimplifying the complex is not only dangerous—it’s also terribly "ultra-passed."
