❓All Aboard the ALLULOSE Train?
Seeing a lot more posts celebrating allulose these days. How much do you know about it? Here are some basic facts:
-”…provides 0.4 calories/gram (appears to have no affect on blood glucose)” - Medical News Today
-”…there have been primarily animal studies with allulose and some small human studies.” - Medical News Today
-”…eating large amounts of allulose can cause gastrointestinal distress. A 2024 report by the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) agency noted that some people experienced laxative effects when consuming more than 0.4 gram per kilogram of bodyweight (28 grams for a 154 pound adult) in a single serving or 0.9 gram per kilogram of bodyweight (63 grams for a 154 pound adult) per day.5 As a reference, Magic Spoon cereals contain 5 to 10 grams of allulose per serving6, meaning an average adult would need to eat about 3 servings of Magic Spoon at one sitting or 6 servings in a day to potentially experience laxative effects.” - CSPI

If you want to reduce inflammation and improve your health, focus on eating a variety of whole, nutrient-dense foods, increase your fiber intake, sleep well, move your body and manage stress to the best of your ability (this probably includes blocking fear mongering “nutrition influencers”).”
